These 2 programmes provide FREE legal advice and representation to only deserving members of the public. It also creates awareness and educates the public of their rights and duties. Public will come to seek advice on various legal problems such as criminal cases (client on bail and in remand in prison), family cases, domestic violence cases, syariah cases, employment cases, pertaining to immigration law (for foreigners), passport & identity card problem cases, public interest litigation cases, housing & tenancy cases, appeal cases etc.
This program provides FREE legal advice, representation and assistance to the unrepresented persons in the Magistrate Courts in Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur for ONLY criminal offence. Services are provided to those clients who pleas GUILTY and need assistance in MITIGATION (reducing the sentence), BAIL APPLICATIONS and REMAND HEARINGS. Up to 90% of those subject to the criminal justice system in Kuala Lumpur Courts do not have access to legal advice, assistance or representation
This program provides FREE legal advice and representation, and assistance to remand detainees in prison and homes (for the juveniles) including the women. The program also contacts and helps family members to post bail and to inform them the whereabouts of clients. This program helps out in reducing clients time spent in prison and the population in prison not forgetting the juveniles having access to legal advice and representation.
This is a joint program with AWAM (All Women Action Society) which provides legal advice and assistance on criminal, employment and mostly on matters relating to women especially family cases and domestic violence cases. They advise, inform, counsel, assist and empower the women in crisis from all walks of life in a friendly, personal, supportive and homely environment.
This is a joint program with WAO (Women’s Aid Organisation). Their service is similar with the above program (LAC/AWAM Legal Information Service).
This is a joint program with SIS (Sisters-In-Islam) and mostly deals with syariah law and other matters relating to women. Their service is also similar with the above 2 programs.
This is a joint program with Tenaganita's Migrant Workers Desk; provides FREE legal advice, representation and assistance to deserving migrant workers (who came legally to Malaysia) eg a major and perhaps only avenue of legal assistance for abused and exploited migrant workers. They also liaise with relevant authorities e.g. Police, Labour and Immigration Department and Inland Revenue and coordinating/participating in negotiating with ex-employers.
This is a joint program with UNHCR (United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees). They provide legal advice and assistance on refugees’ issue to refugees such as advises, counsel and assisting the refugees on legal issues.
We work together with PTF (Pink Triangle Foundation) and the Malaysian Aids Council (MAC) toprovide FREE legal assistance and advice to 6 communities ie people living with AIDS, sex
workers, gay men, lesbians, drug users and transsexuals; who have been marginalised by the society on legal advice and representation.
This is a program for organisers and co-ordinating training for pupils and volunteers for LAC programs and preparing training materials. This program came about so that it can avoid duplication and overlap between training sessions for different programs, making training more focused, improving the quality of training and speakers. This program is not for pupils' participation but for volunteer lawyers and others to participate and gain exposure/experience.
This programme aims to give pupils an idea as to what is required and expected of them during their 14 days compulsory Legal Aid duty and to introduce them to the various clinics and programmes run by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur).
